Research notes
Bacteriostatic Water (BW 0.9%) is a sterile aqueous diluent containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that suppresses bacterial growth so a sealed multi-draw vial can be entered repeatedly. Research has demonstrated that benzyl alcohol at this concentration inhibits common bacterial contaminants, which is why laboratories choose it over plain sterile water for multi-draw reconstitution. Each vial is filled and sealed under sterile conditions, and its batch Certificate of Analysis is viewable online.
